3 Important Education Trends in 2017

Let’s cut to the chase. Here are the three important education trends for 2017:

1. The Value of Authentic learning: The real-world learning experience will continue in 2017. Today, schools are recognizing the value of closing the book in support of practical learning. The question that many people are hoping to answer is: Which is the best way to provide such experiences for students?

Authentic learning has many forms. Vocational training and apprenticeships provide students the freedom to discover and foster their passions. In addition to test-derive careers, the real-world experiences also help schools build relationships with communities. These partnerships can lead to more teamwork at some time in the future. Business leaders are also coming to talk in schools about speedy essay or providing demonstrations for students interested in pursuing their fields. Level of engagement that we have seen from students in authentic learning is promising.

Discussion about the value of simulations and port-folio-based assessment will also continue in 2017. Authentic learning experiences will help students prepare for higher education and work-world success.

2. A New Role for Teacher: Job description of teachers has undergone significant transformations in a short period of time. The traditional method of teaching, “stand-and-deliver” is replaced by “guide-on-the-side” approach. Today, teachers are trending in the direction of mentors and coaches for their students, supervising activities and provide assessment when there is a need for it. Teachers are focusing on lectures less while consulting more and encouraging students to discover and explore their passions in a flexible manner.

Grading looks very different than that it was 10 years ago. Some schools are eliminating exams from their curricula. Educators are expected to pay increased attention to strengths and weaknesses of each student.

3. Consumer Students-> Creator Students: The role of students has also changed like teacher. In 2017, the push to convert students from consumers to creators will last. Much of the transformation of students’ role is driven by technology. New world of possibilities for students has also opened up. We are seeing more curriculum strategies today that depend on real-world application over closed-circuit projects.

Students are asked to interact with their communities and undertake the responsibilities of entrepreneurs rather than only playing a role. Immersive techniques have opened up a much deeper level of understanding. Some educational leaders have gone too far to invite students to co-develop their own curricula.

This movement is not only about entrepreneurship. Students as producers can be discovered in everything from media production to game design and programming. Activities, facilities, and equipment provide excellent and engaging opportunities to both teachers and students.

Authentic learning experiences, the changing role of teachers, and the shift from students as consumers to creators are the three important education trends that you will be hearing about in 2017. It is significant to note that none of these trends are “classroom initiatives”. No matter what your role is; you will still want to stay inform about these trends. In a nutshell, you will be in a position to adapt with the changing tides in the near future.
